Jean Marie Mersmans was born on
December the 5th 1953 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He started
drawing and painting at an early age. After studying biology and medicine
he started a course at the Academy of Arts in The Hague. Since then, he
worked in studios in The Hague, Leiden, Abcoude and Katwijk aan Zee.
Sometimes he works abroad. Spain is his favorite country.
Jean Marie's paintings manifest life
in an exuberant environment of movement, light and colors. The things he
loves are his sources of inspiration: fauvism, expressionism, a Burgundian
life, traveling. His paintings give
an overall picture: bulls, horses
and people are connected to- and communicating with - their surroundings.
This also counts for his portraits: Jean Marie paints his personalities
never detached from their attitude of mind.
Jean Marie also works by order.
He took care over a hundred orders, mostly portraits.
Jean Marie's work is kept in private
and public collections.
